P.RAMLEE: PENGLIPURLARA DAN PENCERITA

                        KEHADIRAN SANG PENCERITA

Tema kebanyakan
skrip filem Melayu ketika perkembangannya pada tahun-tahun 1940-an dan 1950-an ialah
cinta tidak berbalas, perkahwinan paksa serta anak yang menderita. Kehadiran
P.Ramlee menandakan satu perubahan. Beliau mengkritik kemunduran dan sikap
kolot masyarakat Melayu. P.Ramlee meneruskan tradisi penglipurlara yang bukan sahaja memperkatakan malah menawarkan penyelesaian kepada masalah yang dihadapi oleh bangsa Melayu yang sedang berhadapan dengan dunia baru yang mencabar. Menurut Hassan Muthalib, pendekatan P.Ramlee adalah unik dan auteristik, iaitu menyerlahkan kepengarangan beliau serta dianggap melangkaui zamannya (2017).


Menerusi skrip filem keduanya, Semerah Padi
(1956), beliau menunjukkan pentingnya menghormati golongan yang tua dan
mengasihi golongan yang lebih muda, termasuk beradab sopan dalam pertuturan
serta tingkah laku. Skrip Tiga Abdul (1964) memaparkan kemusnahan watak
manusia terletak pada elemen kuasa (takhta), harta dan wanita. Musang
Berjanggut (1959), dan Nujum Pa’ Blalang (1959), ialah skrip mengenai
bagaimana mempertahankan integriti walaupun berdepan dengan godaaan-godaan
nafsu. Pendekar Bujang Lapok (1959), ialah mengenai penghijrahan ke arah
kebaikan melalui kasih sayang, kekeluargaan dan elemen terpenting dalam
kehidupan, iaitu pendidikan. Sesudah Subuh (1967), dan Gerimis (1965),
adalah pemaparan masyarakat berbilang bangsa di Malaysia di samping mengangkat
isu mengenai keadaan bangsa Melayu yang tidak berkuasa, kecewa dan tidak yakin
dengan masa depan mereka sendiri. Setiap filem yang diterbitkan mempunyai
hubung kait dengan budaya, masyarakat, persekitaran dan sejarah serta tujuan
penerbitannya.  Namun menurut Hassan Muthalib, P. Ramlee menggunakan skrip atau
bahasa filem yang mudah difahami oleh khalayak yang kebanyakannya buta huruf
atau berpendidikan rendah ketika zaman filem-filemnya diterbitkan (2017). 

Anuar Nor Arai berpendapat bahawa P. Ramlee telah
berupaya keluar dari bendungan air mata melalui filem-filem komedinya.
(2007,ms.19). Bahkan pada pendapat beliau, P. Ramlee bukan sahaja membawa
perubahan dalam sejarah perfileman Melayu tetapi P. Ramlee telah membawa keluar
mentaliti Melayu supaya berfikir tentang masyarakatnya, seperti berikut:  Bagi mendirikan satu tembok pemisah Melayu yang
berfikir, ia terletak di tangan Melayu yang juga berfikir. Bagi mereka yang
berada di luar sistem studio filem di Singapura, pemikiran politik dan sastera
sudah jauh menjangkau dalam fikiran Melayu untuk bebas daripada penjajahan,
tetapi dalam filem, masih tetap berlinang air mata. Jauh tersentuh dalam akal
P.Ramlee ialah seorang Melayu yang mahukan kemajuan. Filem mula berfikir serius
dalam tangan P.Ramlee Pandangannya terhadap hidup lebih nyata dan menjurus
kepada persoalan masyarakat yang berdiri di tengah-tengah perubahan sosial yang
melanda alam Melayu di Singapura dan Tanah Melayu ketika itu. Melayu dibawanya
berfikir dan diajaknya melihat semula keadaan mereka dalam masyarakat.
